Victory For 4x4
As a world-leading manufacturer of 4x4 vehicles, not the least of them the legendary Land Cruiser, it is not surprising that Toyota has a successful record in off-road racing, both in the US and in Europe.
In North America, the Tundra competes in national championship events, while in Europe, the diesel-powered Land Cruiser is the favoured machine, having first tackled the Paris-Dakar event in 1978.
The Land Cruiser has secured many diesel category wins on the Paris-Dakar and other events, but with the advent of the Land Cruiser 90 and 95, Toyota created a vehicle that could compete on equal terms with petrol-powered rivals. This model has chalked up a number of 24-hour endurance events in France and a round of the Off-Road World Cup.
